Recruit to Private

ALA KE POM POR!
MATA KONG SI!

Something we've been shouting for without fail for the past 3 months...
Its already 3 months in Kestrel Coy and we've finally come to the end of the BMT... Sorry Eagle guys, you are still recruits keeping our rifles after our POP parade.. :p

its been fun in Kestrel coy except for some MFCB... bt overall it was fun meeting new buddies...
first friend i had met was Jon.. pretty siao on with him until some part where i slack down alot... Had chong as my close buddy... bloody funny guy and we've been helping eachother buying stuff throughout BMT... haha.. then came the buddy who i do stupid things and get into trouble with, Reddy.. haha.. the last sunday of BMT was our biggest laughter man... got into trouble with jackson and got ourselves and our bed wet like shit... haha..

Come our commanders...

First commander i met was 3SGT Fazli, haha.. super playful sergeant who i joke with the first minute i saw him.. then came PS Alvin.. found out that hes an ACSian and he told me PC is also and ACSian... yeah! haha.. SGT Alvin is someone who never wipe that smile of his off even when he is angry.. i don't know why.. this really makes it funny when he scolds everyone and after the effing session we have from him, everyone will start mocking him.. i mean the way he eff us is also very unique... memorable things like, which part of DON'T MOVE you don't understand?! and start spelling out the words... I think you guys want to talk to the floor right... maybe the sky wants to talk to you more.... FUCKED UP!!! haha.. the common ones... will never forget... then came 3SGT Shao Ming... always with that phrase SURE OR NOT? Always try to run away from him, coz hes the CQ of the company and when it comes to him means Sai Kang is comming.. haha.. bt hes a nice guy lah... and our Sect. Comm SGT Fairuz... super quiet and dangerous man who just makes us do drills and drills and more drills... like 10second adjust in height, 10seconds knock it down, 10 seconds smokers non smokers, 10 seconds muslim non muslim.... WTF!!! haha.. but still hes a nice guy...
Finally came the crazy guy who always shouts "ALA KER POM POR!" CPT Erzwin Yem... Super crazy guy.. remembered 4th day only we had OCPT which is alot more tough than the enhanced training... and once in awhile he will start to do things like 3 sets of 50 counts of 4 jumping jacks, 20 counts of 4 push ups, 20 counts of 4 crunches, 20 counts of 4 bridge and many many more... the enhanced jaguar guys see already also cheer for us.. coz they know that they cant tahan his training too... haha...
BUT BUT BUT! the one and only commander i will respect the most is the "MOTHER F*CKING CH** BY*'s" BMT buddy.. haha.. 2LT Peh.. first night he already told us his buddy in bmt was a MFCB.... he really gains respect from me coz i see him from a different point of view.. as an instructor myself i see leaders from a different point of view.. LT Peh is super firm but he still makes friends with the recruits and blend in with us very well.. it is always difficult to be both the bad and the good guy.. it take alot of skill to do it and i am still working on it at work...

well stay tuned for the POP pictures to come...

Last Camp

Just finished my last camp yesterday... I wont be doing anymore camps for the next 2 years coz the bloody government wants me to go and train up and protect the nation.. not that army sucks, but the feeling is just pretty shitty being controlled for 2 years when i've been controlling campers for 4 years...

It was Bedok Green(OH WAIT!!!), Bukit View(OH WAIT!!!) no no no.. its BEDOK VIEW!!! haha... i've been mistaking the school for bedok green and bukit view for the whole camp.. i am sure you know why... Its andrew's camp and bloody hell!! MY LAST CAMP IN St. John's Island... Initially i was cursing and swearing coz i always hear people saying that st john island is a very siong place to run camp, coz i nv do any camps in there before.. but it turned out to be pretty easy...

During PCB, i was telling andrew its my last camp, give me a normal tech or a normal acad class coz i've always been motivating these kinda students, but i had never taken them for camps before.. so andrew agreed to give me a normal acad class... and he gave me miao xia as my mirror..

When we reached the school, miao xia and i took our grp and i broke the ice between the students and us.. Miao Xia was quite attached to the group already when andrew asked her to leave me for denson's class... so i had to the class all alone.. what a thing to happen on my last camp actually.. 29 students fr me to handle.. actually i could handle but i thought maybe my last camp i will just be ait slack.. bt i think God had a different plan for me.. so i decided to give my best in the camp...

I thought maybe i should try a different way for doing this camp... i did lesser physical stuff bt more learning points.. and it turned out well.. teacher in charge followed my class for one day and seems like she was impressed with the way i handle the bunch of kids...

Had zhong wen as my buddy for rah rah session.. really had quite a good chemistry with him.. first day rah rah was super fun and funny.. really must grab him back to camp and do rah rah together when i ORD..

Andrew praised me for my job in the camp too which made me feel good, and plus he said that he teacher in charge particularly pointed me out as a good and experienced instructor.. it really boosted my morale...

With my morale up high there, i lead the instructors to rah rah the whole cohort in the canteen... it was an awesome session while we waited for the 2nd boat to reach..

Went for lunch in tampines sec coz andrew had a PCB there.. all instructors plus some from the other camp came together in tampines sec.. 23 of us were there supporting him in just a PCB for the students..

Here the fun part that the western guys had.. On the way home driving, we started going every school and shout oie at the students who just finished school.. damn funny session.. Bukit view, hong kah, jurong west, fuhua, yuhua, jjc and dunno what other school..

hmm overall, it has been an awesome experience in this industry.. till 2 years time...

JACKASS!

JACKASS OF THE DECADE!

Saw this news article few mths back where "Ah Boy" from the local sitcom Phua Chu Kang was sentenced to 1 week in Detention Barracks (DB) which is the military equivalent to prison.

"Ah Boy" aka Marcus Ng Yi Loong (Picture left) may not ring a bell to many but if you were an ACS boy or old boy, you would definitely remember this asshole as the punk who dragged ACS (ex-Barker Road, now International) Principal, Mr Ng Eng Chin (picture below right), through a year's worth of mud with false allegations of molestation way back in 2001.

Mr Ng Eng Chin (NEC, as is also known as) was my Principal during my time in secondary school. For the 2 years that I have known him, NEC is a good and straight up guy in school. So when the allegation that he molested Marcus during a counseling session, I knew right from the start that it was a lie. There was never a doubt in every cell of my existence to believe that NEC would do such a thing.

At the end of the investigation which dragged over a year, he was unanimously cleared, by the Panel of Inquiry, of all charges. In most cases, it would be a great relief but our faith in NEC was so great that there was no relief to speak of as we knew from the start that the investigation was merely a formality and that acquittal was inevitable.

Yes, NEC was exonerated but to be dragged through the mud bringing stress and hardships to him, his family, friends and supporters was certainly uncalled for.

Marcus Ng as far as I am concerned is a trouble making delinquent that ought to be hantam one time jialat jialat.

I read in disbelief when his mother told the press that "He (Marcus) is a well-mannered, humble and respectful person despite finding fame early..."

It makes me wonder if his mom is of sound mind or deliriously in denial.

Let it be known that a year after the investigation, at the age of 17 and no longer in the school, was put on probation on charges of assault and theft and a year before this case, he was convicted and fined SGD 1000.00 for disobedience and non-compliance.

To this I would say to Marcus' mom. Well-mannered, humble and respectful. NOT!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

By the way, here's an interesting tidbit that I bet most of you would not have picked up. Marcus' family hired Drew & Napier's Wendell Wong to defend them.

Of all people Wendell Wong. Oh, the irony!

Mr Wendell Wong was ex-Deputy Prosecutor and tracing further back was Head Prefect of ACSS'87, President of the ACJC'89 Students' Counsel Ex-Co and one of the youth leaders of the Barker Road Methodist Church. In other words, he is a true-blue ACS boy and here in the ACS family, when you mess with one of us, you mess with all of us. That how strong our school spirit is.

Anyway, kudos to Wendell for his integrity and discharging his duties without prejudice under the circumstances. To this, I am humbled for if I were in Wendell's shoes, I would have to request to have myself taken out of this case for I would sure to be the "goalie that would purposely leak a goal or two".

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To Marcus,

I sincerely hope that you would spend the time in DB to seriously reflect on your past mistakes. May you come out better and be a decent person.

If not, please continue to stay inside until you've truly learnt your lesson.

Try picking a fight with the warden or something.

Cheers.

I dint expect myself to do so much camps up to date.... 30 camps in 4 years and i just realised that i am in my 4th year in doing this... How many lives have i touched? How many souls have i woken? How many behaviors have i changed? How many campfires have i been through? How many times have i belayed? How many abseiling tries have i dispatched? How many zipline tries have i dispatched?

I think i am going to have my last camp in the month of may and announce my retirement... I've seen myself at my peak form, i've seen myself at my lowest form and the trend have been tumbling down lately... Since my national service notice have been sent to me and i will be enlisting in june, i shall take a break at least for this 2 years... Maybe i will build up more qualities in the army and come out into camp and start using it...

As i was at Clementi Primary School performance night, i gave a long thought of how many more camps i want to do before i enlist and how will i feel for my last campfire as an instructor...
I will really miss students calling me:
-Instructor Alfred
-Instructor Hippo
-Bloop Boom!
-Bloop Bloop Bloop Boom!
and the cheers of instructor hippo which Canberra Sec sang out for me. Also not forgetting the song which NUS high school wrote for me...

My most special gift from my students were the 2 t-shirts of tanglin sec which they had signed and given me... Both the 2007 and the 2008 batch...

Campers who i still remember (sorry if i missed you out)
2005 - Edsmond (JVS)

and more outstanding students who i forgotten your names... I really appriciate your coporative spirit in camp and your never ending cheers... Especially for my ITE CE group, you never fail to stand beside my hammok at 6.30am every morning and wake me up at 6.45am from the, giving me a can of red bull and start asking me to teach you cheers! Not forgetting also the pizza surprise which you guys called on the 2nd dinner... Blogging @ 3AM!!!!

Its almost 3.30am and i am still up in the sick bay of Jalan Bahtera Adventure Centre... Only 1st Aider of the camp and i have 2 kids in the sick bay which means i cannot sleep.. making my life harder than doing night duty for instructors... argh!!!

Let me blog abt Tanglin Sec first..

Day 1...

Drove down to tanglin and got caught in a jam.. argh!! thought we were going to be late.. As usual after knowing how ian works, i somehow got the habit and started to ask those in my van to call eunice and inform that we were going to be late... When we reached there, only rendall was there... i was like !@#@#%#@$^#@... Infact i actually woke up late and i only changed when i reached the school... even my shoes... thats one thing good about having to drive there... everything you want, you have!

Hang around there and i actually saw my ex-camper! my best camper last year.. she was having her PE class and also another ex-camper who happened to be in vanessa's group... i actually brought the t-shirt that the campers gave me to camp and when i happened to show this particular ex-camper, she was like eh i never sign!!! then i was like alright let you sign lah.. actually if she have signed or not i also dunno right...

I finally saw the 'fu lu shou' of tanglin sec.. they are the best teachers lah!! Mr. Wan, Mr. Tam and Mr Lim... Wha best of the best... This year i had to take Carova house... Wanted to take back aspen bt i could not.. so i told myself its a big challange for me as carova was the worst house last year...

Day 2 came and apprantly my group leader was still sick and happened that i found a good leader from moon's group, in fact 2! Adelaide and Johnny!!! Apprantly johnny dint have good comments from the teachers.. It was the time when i told myself that he is going to be a life changing story that i am going to create! With his leadership skills, his selfless thinking and initiative, he really gained my respect and i knew that i had a good leader to guide. Adelaide is another natural leader who reminds me of zhenyi from tanglin last year... Shes good and takes initiative in everything she does...
Night came and all of us were to vote for the best camper and i really spoke out for johnny! and yeah he got the best camper for the camp..

I was sad to see the house that i took last year drop down to 3rd from the 1st they had last year... and was even more sad to not get the best house in the camp.. but the most important thing that i believed for the students is still their learning journey...

anyway, i really hope to see my campers enjoyed themselves and learnt something from this camp... bonus for me in this camp would be to change someone's life today!
